Demonstrative Adjectives

Demonstrative adjectives are used to indicate a specific person or object. Always match the gender and number to the noun it refers to.

Examples:

  • Questo portofoglio e mio. (This wallet is mine.)

  • Quegli orologi sono neri. (Those watches are black.)

  • Mi piace questa maglietta. (I like this shirt.)

  • Queste borse sono tue? (Are these bags yours?)

Two kinds of demonstrative adjectives in Italian:

  1. Questo - used for objects and people near us

  2. Quello - used for objects and people far from us

Agreement:

  • Questo - masculine singular

  • Questi - masculine plural

  • Questa - feminine singular

  • Queste - feminine plural

  • Quest' - masculine and feminine singular if noun begins with a vowel (ex. quest'orologio)
